For the front garden it was agreed 40mm thick Australian Bluestone in an ashlar pattern would be laid on paver supports to ensure the membrane was protected. This allows the tiles to be removed easily, and the membrane inspected or repaired if necessary. Storm water flows freely through the 4mm joints onto the membrane to waste points below.

The car lift platform required thinner tiles and it was agreed that 100 x 100 x 20mm Granite Cobbles be installed. The grey coloured cobbles compliment the bluestone and are glued directly to the car platform steel sub-base. They have an exfoliated finish ensuring high slip resistance.

The rear of the property required a completely different treatment. The client chose Silver Travertine tiles and pool coping which has beautiful colour tones and complements the pool tile colour & outdoor furniture.

This garden design, by Jane Jones, showcases the house beautifully. Jane used advanced plant stock which gave the project an instant established feel, connecting the garden to heritage tree lined streetscape.

In this inner-city Melbourne home, the pool was ‘well loved’. It featured 300 x 300 slate tiles, which were old, were coming away from fixings and were not in keeping with the style of the home.

In this instance, the owners decided to upgrade the backyard, which included an extensive pool renovation. The design of the new backyard was also more in keeping with the beautiful Victorian style of the home.

The roman shaped 1980’s inspired pool was renovated and retiled. The new design featured Bluestone coping, which was curved to the existing shape as well Bluestone paving, in an Ashlar pattern which was laid in the area surrounding the pool as well as the driveway.

The task at hand was to turn a standard 1980’s pool into something extra special with extensive landscaping as well.

Enter the lap pool. Enter a spa. Enter a curved piece of glass which radiates the entire design. Beautifully lit at night, this outdoor space uses passive levels like very few other projects do.

KHD supplied Landscape Grade Australian Bluestone throughout the project which included solid Bluestone steps. Around the pool, the Bluestone was solid curved steps of 150 x 300 which works with the spa perfectly.

One Melbourne Quarter (One MQ) by architect Denton Corker Marshall, is the first commercial office tower to be completed in the precinct. The 13 level, 25,000m2 building is a benchmark for leading workplace design. Its centrepiece is Melbourne’s first Sky Park floating 12m above Collins Street.

Suspended above Collins Street, opposite Southern Cross Station, and accessible via a dramatic staircase or the glass lifts located nearby, the majority of Sky Park is open-air, featuring lush green landscaping that allows visitors to soak up the sun in a wind protected environment.

With the first stage of the Sky Park now open, locals, visitors and workers can begin to be acquainted with their new green backyard.

KHD supplied the Versijack paver pedestals for the complex paving set out over the podium. Level changes and ramps needed to be negotiated, and this was overcome with Elmich’s Versijack Slope Corrector. The standard Top Slope Corrector can be set in 1% increments up to 5%, or 1in20. If further slope correction is required a Bottom Slope Corrected can be introduced, gaining a further 5% deviation. Using both Top & Bottom Slope Correctors, 10%, or 1in10, deviation can be achieved.

The Park in the sky is open to the public during business hours, Monday to Friday.

Specifications

To provide a non-corrosive support structure for stainless steel beams and timber decking in exclusive high rise apartments.

Solution

VersiJack telescopic supports were positioned directly onto the waterproofing membrane and stainless steel beams positioned onto VersiJack units and anchored into wall sections. Timber decking was mechanically fastened onto the stainless steel beams. VersiJack provide a rigid support network for beams and decking, allow service lines to be installed under the decking and minimise sound transmission from one floor to the next.

With regards to this recent project, Ian Barker Gardens were engaged to design a biophilic Green Roof space for staff at Pentana Solutions. Pentana provide innovative solutions for the automotive industry. We can certainly see how this green roof space would help inspire an organisation to achieve such innovative projects.

For this project, KHD supplied drainage cell and geo fabric which was used in the garden beds and planter boxes.

VersiPave was also installed across the entire space and, in particular, was an innovative partner in the development of the ‘Chess Board’. VersiPave allows for the corner of each paver to be adjusted to a different height. The chess board was installed using bluestone pavers & synthetic turf clad pavers. Using the VersiPave made this solution easy as the ‘green’ squares were set slightly lower than the stone squares, creating a constant finished surface level. The end result – bingo… or checkmate!

Green Roof Designer & Construction – Ian Barker Gardens

During some recent landscaping works, Trinity Grammar upgraded the entrance to the playing fields. The project was installed by Trinity’s own ground staff lead by Michael Molinaro.

During these works, the low wall at the main entrance was replaced with Bluestone – providing a welcoming and organic feel to the space.

The Pitched Face Bluestone cladding was supplied in 600 x 200, 400 x 200 and 200 x 200mm panels. Honed Bluestone was supplied for the capping.
