We recently supplied natural stone for an inner city Melbourne property with a Shakespearean twist.
The home had a deep history and the owners wanted to conserve this and therefore it was vital that the design of the garden had to be kept within these historic boundaries. The brief was to deliver a beautifully exotic garden that did not feel too ‘new’ for the property and look out of place in its surroundings.
The project took time and planning to produce the garden that met the exact brief. Over the space of two years, the garden was reconstructed and in essence it was completely rebuilt from the foundation up. This reconstruction included the development of the creek making it wider and deeper as well as incorporating different stone varieties to the existing architecture for a more pristine finish. The hard wearing properties of the stones ensure that they were fit for purpose as well as attractive.
The stones supplied by KHD were:
Bluestone – for the pool coping and steps of the property
Heritage finished Bluestone – specifically surfaced to fit in with the design brief given
Ashlar patterned Bluestone – this was in a large format for the pool pergola
Castlemine Slate – over 700 square metres of this slate was used for the overall project and large steps for the walkway areas
The stone supplied by KHD was provided in stages as the garden was reinvented through the building and replanting process. The inner city forest garden provided a natural yet urban sanctuary for its owners without losing the tradition of the property.
